REAL ESTATE ASSESSMENT DATA AND REAL ESTATE PARCEL MAPS
A summary of Monterey’s Assessment data and real estate parcel maps now can be viewed online.
The parcel maps show the location, the boundary dimensions, the acreage and the “Parcel ID” number of all separately deeded real estate parcels in Monterey.  Summaries of the land, yard items and building value assessments for each parcel are organized by parcel ID number or by owner’s name.  These can be viewed in the PDF documents entitle “Assess. Data by Parcel ID” or “Assess. Data by Owner”.  If these online documents are not sufficient and you prefer a hardcopy of the Real Estate Property Card, you may request them using the web application form.  The requested Property Cards can be sent by Fax, or email.  Alternatively, they may be picked up at the Town Hall.

To Obtain Tax Map Data (Parcel ID, or Acreage and Boundary measurements of Parcels)
Open the “Taxmap” folder and open the “Map Index pdf” document and find the grid box (map page) covering the appropriate area of Monterey.  Each grid box is identified with a unique 3 digit number.  Double click on the PDF map file with the number covering the area of interest.  A window will open showing the desired map page.
The Parcel ID for any parcel can be obtained from a tax map.  The Parcel ID is a 16 digit number interrupted with 4 spaces, in the form of 234 001 000 000 000.  In this example the first three digits is the number of the tax map page containing the parcel followed by a space; the second three digits is the lot number on that map page, followed by a space.  The remaining numbers designate subdivision, condo or apartment numbers and are very infrequently encountered in Monterey, thus the last digits are most frequently zero’s, as in the example.
Using the zoom and scroll bars, you can change the magnification and the portion of the map page that appears in the window so as to better reveal all of the boundary dimensions of the parcel of interest.

To Obtain Assessment Information and Legal References For a Parcel:
You must know either the Owner’s Name or the Parcel ID to access the assessed value data.  There are two Assessed Value Data files, one arranged by owner’s names, the other by Parcel ID number.  If you are unsure of the Parcel ID number but know the parcel’s location in Monterey, you can obtain it from the Tax Map as explained above.
Open the appropriate Assessed Value Data file and a PDF window will appear with the following headings:
Parcel ID – the first column (arranged in numerical order in the “…by Parcel ID” version
Number – Street number
Address – Road Name
Owner #1 – arranged alphabetically in the “by Owner” version
LUC – Land Utilization Classification
Built – Year Built
Acreage
Legal #1 and Date #1 – Book and Page and Date reference for the current Title
Legal #2 and Date #2 -- Book and Page and Date reference for the previous Title
Land Value, Yard Value, Build. Value and Total Value – The relevant current assessment data for each category
Scroll down the spreadsheet to the appropriate Owner’s Name or Parcel ID to the view the parcel’s assessment data.
