Happy New Year!  Just a few items from the Town Hall.

  • Burn season opens January 15th.  You must obtain a permit from the Monterey Fire Department by calling 528-1734 on the day you are going to burn.  Burning hours start at 10am and all fires must be out by 4pm.  Refer to the January 2010 Monterey News (page 6) for a full printed list of rules and regulations.
  • The Town Hall and the Monterey Library will be closed on Monday, January 18th in observance of Martin Luther King Day.
  • There are still a few recycling bins available at the town hall, please see Melissa Noe, Inter-Departmental Secretary to get yours.
  • The Monterey Outdoor Ice Pavilion is open weekdays from 7am – 7pm for general skating.  Adult hockey hours are 7 – 9pm weeknights except Thursdays.  Before skating please be sure to check the sign on the outside of the pavilion to be sure the rink is open.
  • There is one vacant seat on the Monterey Parks Department.  Meetings are the first Wednesday of every month at 6:00pm.  Interested parties must be a registered voter of Monterey, MA.  Any interested parties should send a letter of interest to both the Monterey Parks Department and the Monterey Select Board at P.O. Box 308 Monterey, MA 01245.
  • The next free health screening sponsored by CHP will be on Tuesday, January 19th from 10am to noon.  Please call Luci Leonard at 413-644-0104 x15 for more information.  The next free blood pressure clinic with the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association will be on Thursday, January 14th from 2 – 3pm.
  • And remember, you can now pay your real estate taxes online.  To accommodate taxpayers who want the convenience of paying Monterey Real Estate and Personal Property taxes online, a NEW payment option is now available.  To pay your tax, you must have your current BILL and CHECKBOOK/CREDIT CARD in hand.
  • Go to: www.montereyma.gov
  • Click on: Pay Real Estate Taxes Online
  • Enter the bill number of your current bill
  • Enter the bill year: 2010
  • The tax amount shown is the amount of the third quarter due Feb 1.  If you wish, you may pay both the third and fourth quarter by entering that amount from your bill
  • Complete the payment screens as directed
  • Credit card payments by MasterCard and Discover are accepted.  Please note the credit card company will charge the taxpayer a fee for the service.  This fee is not assessed by or paid to the Town of Monterey.  It’s convenient, fast and secure.
