It’s summer and the Monterey Cultural Council has sprung into full entertainment mode. Mark your calendar for Saturday July 10 at 7:00 p.m. to enjoy musicians Seth and Joey Farber, and Liz Queler. The fabulous talented trio – and happy family – has made music in Monterey for the last two summers, starting what one hopes is an annual tradition. Queler, a gifted songwriter and singer, is currently working on “The Edna Project,” a song cycle set to the poetry of Berkshire denizen Edna St. Vincent Millay. Seth Farber is a
composer, master pianist, and Broadway musical director. Their precocious son Joey plays the piano, but his specialty is drumming, a sight one must see to believe. Their free concert will be held at the Monterey Church Meeting House with refreshments to follow. If you missed it last year, write this on this year’s calendar in ink.
On Friday, July 16 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. artist Greg Maicheck will be teaching his popular Pastel workshop. Previous workshops were sold out, so make your reservation now with John Heffernan - email jeh111@juno.com 413-644-9235. This year’s topic is “How to Pastel Paint as Impressionists - Monet’s Magic Garden”. Material are supplied.
The Massachusetts Cultural Council (a state agency), and the Monterey Cultural Council will enable you to attend these events absolutely free and enjoy refreshments provided by the Monterey Store.
Deborah Bernhardt offers a July poetry class. It will be a laboratory for experimenting with language and a workshop for revising the results. Writing exercises and reading contemporary poems will be part of the creative process. No experience necessary! Deborah Bernhardt has an MFA in Creative Writing and has received national as well as international poetry fellowships and literature grants. Her first collection, Echolalia, was published by Four Way Books (NY) in 2006 as winner of the Intro Prize for Poetry. Workshops will meet on two Saturdays, July 10 and July 17, 3PM-5PM. The cost is $20. A celebratory reading will be held on Sunday, July 18, at 2PM. The poetry class will host the reading, and members of the community are
invited to participate in the open mic portion of the reading. Both the classes and the reading will be held at the Monterey General Store. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Monterey Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. For more information, please email Deborah Bernhardt at Deborah.Bernhardt@gmail.com.
