The Monterey Cultural Council is a Select Board appointed committee. Members can serve a maximum of (2) - 3yr terms. The Cultural Council administers State funds that are distributed annually by the Massachusetts Cultural Council to each town. Artists or other applicants submit applications by an October deadline, and the council reviews the applications and determines how to distribute the available funds. This committee also organizes and holds events for the benefit of the town's cultural, scientific and artistic needs.

The Monterey Cultural Council is again seeking proposals for cultural programs in the arts, humanities, and sciences. We encourage applications that will provide a variety of artistic projects and community activities for Monterey, including exhibits, festivals, field trips, workshops, lectures, and short term artist residencies or performances in our schools. These cultural activities warm us through the winter, brighten our entire year and give our artists, musicians, and other enthusiasts and experts an opportunity to share their talents with us.

The application process is simple, but there is a firm deadline. For the distribution of these state funds, we use a standardized application form, which you can access at https://www.mass-culture.org/Monterey. All applications must be postmarked no later than Wednesday, October 15, 2014 to be considered. This deadline applies to individuals, schools or organizations that apply for these grants to support cultural activities in our community. Applications should be mailed to:  Monterey Cultural Council, PO Box 282, Monterey, MA 01245

This fiscal year the council will distribute about $4,300 in grants. Previously funded projects included nature walks, jazz cafes, poetry workshops, painting exhibits, and theater. For specific guidelines and complete information on the application process and forms, visit https://www.mass-culture.org/Monterey. Applications forms will also be available at the Monterey Library, Town Hall, Roadside Cafe and the Monterey General Store.
