Brush Burning Rules & Regulations
Burn Season Opens January 15th
Each year the Commonwealth allows some Massachusetts towns, including Monterey to conduct open burning.
- Permits are required.
- They can be obtained from January 15th - April 30th and can be obtained by calling 528-1734. They are weather permitting and at the discretion of the Fire Chief
- You must call the day that you are burning; no permits are issued ahead of time and the permit is good for one day only
- Burning hours start at 10am and all fires must be out by 4pm
- Burning materials are confined to BRUSH ONLY
- Piles must be kept small and controllable and you must have a method of extinguisment available
