Minutes, March 2, 2006
Present were: Gerry Shapiro, Susan Sellew, Cynthia Weber, Joe Baker, Evelyn Vallianos, Shirley Olds
The minutes were approved as corrected.
We went around our committee with things people wanted to report.
Susan, while talking with Kate Tower of Gould Farm, learned that Linda Small, having retired from Children’s Health Program (earlier name), was beginning a grant researching business and that she could take us on in a month. Susan will call Linda tomorrow to get us on her list. Linda will need a case statement. Linda says green construction is very helpful in grants. She also said that CHP would love to have a once-a-week play group at the Community Center. Nora has said that she does not like searching. Would Nora be willing to stay on for the writing of grants?
Joe has firmed our decision with Jane Schwartz to have the lawn party at Jane’s home on May 13. The party will be 4:00 – 6:00 or 3:30 – 5:30. Joe reported that Lauri Epstein gave Joe a list of possible people to be on the Fundraising Committee. Lauri would like to be on the Fundraising Committee – possibly even a co-chair. Muriel Lazzarini said no to being fundraising chair for the capital campaign. She and her husband are inundated with various commitments. There was some thought about the Mendels although most of the committee don’t know them.
The seed money has come from a short list and a cross section of people in town.
Susan reported that she hopes to be able to give Mari Makuc a lap-top computer so she can take over what Joe has been doing, keeping track of checks received for the Founders Campaign and she will write checks and thank-you notes. It was not reported if she will be paid. We are hoping Debbie Mielke will come onto the Clerical Committee and that she can help us with Quickbooks.
Del Martin says he cannot serve on the Building Committee but he will give advice on our green construction. March 20 – 25 will be the time for interviews of architects.
Susan says regarding Ellen Pearson and her I Love Monterey Day idea, funds need to come from the town and not from us. If Ellen can get official she might be able to get the ILM Day $500.
About our public meeting on Thursday, March 9 at the church basement:
Cynthia will do the introduction about the bequest.
Joe will tell about the Request for Proposals and our hopes in this regard.
Joe will have a white board to write ideas on.
We will have copies of the lease and memorandum of understanding there for people to see.
We will have a sign up sheet there.
There will be cookies and juice.
Our next meeting will be on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at 7:00 pm.
