Our library has grown over the years so that in some ways it seems only the building resembles the library I would visit when I was a child. Some of the changes just happened and could never have been predicted, but some were the result of assessing the needs of the town and then carefully planning how to meet them. It has been many years since we undertook this process at the Monterey Library. It seems like the right time to sit back and evaluate how the Library has been serving the needs of the town.
Once we understand where we are we need to look ahead and see where we need to go from here. This December I’m hoping to get together a committee which will start meeting in January. There will be a period of assessment and then we’ll brainstorm about the future. Some of the members of this committee will be Trustees, and some of The Friends of the Monterey Library will join, but we need to hear from some young people as well as people who maybe haven’t even been to the Library. This is your chance to get involved and influence the direction of the Monterey Library. We are here to serve everyone, and the goal of this process is to improve our services so that everyone will take advantage of the services we offer. If this topic is of any
interest to you, and you can find the time to come to a half dozen or so meeting, please contact me by email(montereylibrary@gmail.com) or come in to the library and let us know you’d like to help. I realize the winter isn’t the best time for many second home owners, but we are hoping to have some representation—and you will be able to participate in some ways. Please consider giving a few hours of your time to helping us puzzle out how to best serve this town that has been so good to us over the years.
