Important Notice to Home Improvement Contractors (HIC)
from the MA Department of Public Safety (DPS)
Effective January 1, 2008 DPS and the Board of Building Regulations and Standards (BBRS) implemented regulations in the MA State Building Code which require that a Specialty Construction Supervisor License (CSL) is required for the following four construction fields:
· Windows and Siding
· Demolition
· Roofing
· Solid Fuel Burning Appliance Installation
If you are presently a contractor (HIC) doing work in any of these fields you may be qualified to obtain a license (CSL) without having to take and pass an exam (i.e. grandfathering). However, you will need to submit an application soon because after June 30, 2008 these licenses will take effect and any work done in these fields will require a CSL.
