Monterey Council on Aging (COA)
Minutes of October 28, 2019
The meeting convened at 10:05. Present Were: Kyle Pierce, Norma Champigny, Roz Halberstadter, Kay Purcell, Ilene Marcus
- Recap of the Val-kill trip on October 23rd, 2019:
- 14 People (18 People had signed up but 4 cancelled prior)
- Lunch at Beekman Arms was fabulous – in our own private room with separate checks!
- Discussion on amount of people appropriate for a trip (we had a big bus). Dufour was good, we should use again and know we have the contact, Katie. Ideas:
- Earlier outreach
- Coordination with another Council
- Plan ahead with annual calendar (keep big trip in October)
- Kyle will send out Otis trips list to our membership
- Discussed the annual events and plan (calendar below)
- Ilene reached out to Hume – to have a discussion on community service for safety and Ideas – Ilene reached to Megan, John the head will call us when he is back in the office on November 11, 2019
- The website was discussed. Kyle and Ilene will work on updating and give to Melissa to update
- Getting local kids for yard work – Roz to call High Schools to find out if they have lists
- Veterans Day – Kyle will pick up coffee and munchkins
- The next Regional COA will be held again at the MCC on January 13th at 10 am. The COA will meet prior at 9 a.m. Kyle has already booked the MCC.
- Upcoming Schedule:
- Nov 11 – Veterans at the Library (get there at 9:30 a.m.)
- Nov 12 – Movie: Moonstruck at 7 p.m. at Town Hall
- Nov COA Meeting – change to Monday, November 18th, at 10 am at Town Hall
- December COA Meeting - Monday the 9th at 10 am at Town Hall
- December 10 – Movie: Chicago at 7 p.m. at Town Hall
- January 13th COA at 9 am at MCC; Regional COA at 10 am
- Kay reported that we need to get the Tax Work- off program to the Assessor’s office by November 30th, 2019
- Outreach Worker and Planning – kay suggested we send out a survey (that had been done prior) about needs and calls. Ilene suggested we write job description (with all Kay notes) and then figure out how to get it done
- K. Purcell; Kyle and Ilene – 1 meeting on job description (October 29, 2019 at 11 am at Town Hall)
- Then Town meeting to discuss salary
- Town to advertise
- Then Job Interview
- Priority Kayaks Racks for Seniors (60+):
Parks department asked COA to think about how to give seniors priority for racks:
- Send out the form to everyone but give Seniors priority to respond by an earlier date (like a month)
- COA will send to our list but since we don’t have of all mail addresses – sending to the all town list is key
