Cultural Council Meeting Minutes 5/3/21

MINUTES:  MONTEREY CULTURAL COUNCIL

DATE:  Monday, May 3, 2021, 4:00 to 5:05pm

PRESENT:  Maggie Barkin, Janet Jensen, Wendy Germain, Dorene Beller, Erica Stern, Carole Clarin

Discussions and Updates of Grantees for 2021 Cycle:

 

1.  Songwriting Workshop:  

          Robin O’Herin has created a poster to notify the community about her songwriting program this summer. 

          Erica will send information to Mary Makuc for the Community Center Calendar and to Chris Blair, Monterey Goggle listserv.

          Janet will include information in her June roundup for the Monterey News.

 

2.  Knox Gallery:

          The Monterey Library will continue to have artists exhibits in the gallery, but due to the Covid restrictions, there will not be any receptions or artist’s talks.  We will continue to follow the rules established by Governor Baker and the CDC and update if changes are made.

 

3.  What’s Happening Series:

          On Mondays, at the Monterey Community Center beginning, June 14, 2021 from 4:00 to 5:00pm, there will be a series of conversations presented by Maggie.

          People are encouraged to talk about what they are doing of a cultural interest and what events, funded by grants, will occur.

4.  Theatre Presentations:

          The Women of Tyringham- Process of Playmaking with Ann Gallo and Rachel Urquhart, who received a cultural council grant for 2020, will be interviewed on July 12, 2021.

          On the Verge or the Geography of Yearning by Eric Overmyer, with four characters, will have a Staged Reading or Workshop.

          Those attending these events will be asked to bring their own chairs, and whenever needed, the programs will take place in the tent on the property of the Monterey Community Center.

 

Additional Discussions:

          Michael Bobbit, having a theatre and dance background, suggests that residents in Berkshire County, reach out to our elected officials to thank them for supporting cultural programs and financially contributing to them.

            Our Local Cultural Council plans to contact the New Marlborough Cultural Council for a meeting at the end of this summer with the hope of working together in the future.

            Our next meeting will be on Monday, June 14, 2021, from 5:00 to 6:00pm under the tent at the Monterey Community Center if available.
