Local Cultural Council

CLICK HERE TO EMAIL THE CULTURAL COUNCIL

As part of the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation, the Monterey Cultural Council typically grants over $7,000 each year to activities that benefit town residents and the local cultural community at large. The funding, from state and local revenue, is generally distributed to two dozen or so individuals and groups in many areas, from visual arts and performances to educational and children's activities.

Appointed by the Select Board, members of the Cultural Council can serve a maximum of two three-year terms. Interested individuals are invited to attend meetings and consider a position on the council.

Those who wish to receive a grant must submit applications, online only, by the October 15 deadline. Guidelines and an application form can be found here. The council reviews the applications and distributes the available funds in the early part of the year. This committee also organizes and holds events, such as the summer "What's Happening" series, for the benefit of the town's cultural, scientific, and artistic life.
