Kayak Safety

Those who boat in small vessels such as Kayaks, Canoes, Paddle Boards and Rafts should follow the same safe Boating Precautions as any other vessel operators.

Operators and Passengers must wear or have a PFD (personal flotation device) attached to the vessel. Children under 12 years of age must wear an approved PFD at all times.

Children under 12 may operate a paddle vessel if accompanied by a competent person 18 or older.

Children 12 through 15 may operate a vessel if they have passed an approved boating course or are accompanied on board by a competent person 18 or older.

Persons 16 or older may operate a paddle vessel without age restrictions.

When paddling on Lake Garfield, for your safety, stay close to shore when there is significant power boat activity and when navigating through the channel connecting the small pond  with the large bowl of the lake.
