FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING

October 9, 2019

MINUTES

MEETING CALLED TO ORDER AT 4:30 PM IN THE TOWN HALL.

As we approach the upcoming budget season, the Finance Committee thought it prudent to better understand the technical elements and challenges associated with the Town’s IT systems.  The Town’s IT contractor, Tom Roy was invited to participate in this meeting.  Aspects of the Town’s IT operations include the following:

  • Server location
  • Email operations and standards
  • Website
  • Back-up systems
  • Security
  • Internet
  • Master contact program

Where to start?  In the last year or two an equipment (hardware) inventory was established and summarized on a spreadsheet.  This spreadsheet has been maintained by Tom Roy, and he agreed to provide a link to the spreadsheet.   Included ton this summary was the equipment in the Town Hall, but not any equipment in the library, the Dept of Public Works, or the Fire Department.

It was noted that our software inventory also needs to be tracked.  Tom thought there was a list of town software, and he would look to provide a copy of that as well. 

It was noted that an IT Study Committee would be helpful in analyze the current IT situation.   Tom indicated that he would see if there were any tech people that he knew who would be interested in volunteering to serve.  Finance Committee members will also look for possible committee members.

The minutes of the October 2, 2019 were reviewed and approved.
