The discussion for this meeting was the special town meeting
We spoke about Article 1 – which needs to be amended on the floor as it is written incorrectly. Each invoice which needs to be paid has to be listed separately and the warrant only had a total. Jon said that the moderator was aware of this.
The rest of the meeting was a discussion of the trucks to be voted on at town meeting.
George spoke about why only 1 truck should be purchased, the old one we have is still running, has very little cost of maintenance of $11,000 last year, and recounted his discussion with Shawn our Dir of DPW on the opinion of the old trucks and the new trucks. Even though these new trucks are not what they need, they just do not want the old truck even though it works. In 2015, and 2016 we purchased 3 550’s
If we purchase these 2 trucks and then another one next year which all three will cost over $600,000. The DPW department will have 5 trucks with only 4 employees. The math does not work. Another look at the capitalization plan plus to look at last years plan (which was requested from Melissa)
The finance committee agreed again that only 1 truck if any should be purchased from stabilization. We have $750,000 in our stabilization fund. We do not want to exhaust the fund or raise taxes for the residents.
It was learned that most of the covid money is going to pay fireman, even though the new plan they wanted was not in the budget. This will be an issue at the 2021/2022 budget
At 6 o’clock Michelle had to leave. We decided to meet again on Oct 22 to speak about the special town meeting.
