MINUTES

HISTORICAL COMMISSION

August 18, 2022

Present:  Maureen MacFarland, Stephanie Sloane, Robert Rausch, Kate Budak, Barbara Swann.

The Commission reviewed information on the Western Massachusetts Historical Commission Coalition, which meets several times a year and has recordings of some of their zoom meetings.  This think-tank may help us in the future.

The State is calling for information from Commissions regarding the State Historic Preservation Plan (2023-2028) and any suggestions we might have to offer for better or different planning proposals.  As we are very new to this work we will likely benefit more from the recordings noted above.

Repairs to the School House might exceed $100,000 which is why the District financing benefits are so important (half would be covered by the State).  The deed to the land in 1845 yielded information regarding the original land allocation for it, at 82.5 feet square.  Florilla Tryon’s land addition would be an addition to that allocation.

Stacia Caplanson has indicated through email that she has us in mind, offering the thought that perhaps the Berkshire Regional Planning Board might work with us on projects.

Jennifer Doherty of the Secretary of State’s office has prepared a set of topics and meetings by zoom for us to attend or not, with the possibility of listening to the lectures later.

Some photos of MTR-A buildings are still missing from the total needed.  Further work to include photos of Monterey’s monuments in the District is required.  Jpg files needed for the missing photos.
