LGWG Meeting Minutes – March 6, 2018

1.WORK GROUP COMMITTEE MEMBERSHIP – Discussion that number of members have expressed inability to continue to participate due to various personal and/or professional commitments or have simply been absent for many months. The Select Board will request formal resignation letters from these members. Dennis Lynch has expressed an interest in joining the committee and consensus is to formally appoint him to join LGWG.

2.LAKE DRAWDOWN – NOI Extension discussed, based on current expiration of 2020 verified by town. Drawdown will be a function of the Town through Director of Highway Operations which can be overridden by Fire Chief based on exigent circumstances, I.e., drought or other safety or emergency issues.

3.Conservation Commission Meeting –

  • Mike Germain met with Con Com to discuss hand harvesting vs. Suction Harvesting and reported that Con Com seems amenable to expanding the areas to pursue harvesting, perhaps as an extension of the existing NOI?
  • Ken Wagner is going to draw something up to present to Con Com for a timely response and will need to be coordinated with State and will try to extend the existing contract, if possible for spending some portion or all of the existing remaining estimated $25,000 -$27,000 allocated monies as necessary. Work will have to be within the scope of the NOI or Orders of Condition unless revised. Steve W. will look into this issue of extending existing harvesting contract to additional areas of milfoil as time is of the essence.

4.Ml Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP)/Ken Wagner Report – Discussion of results and health of the lake based on phosphorus loads from drainage and runoff of roads and potential 25% reduction based on installation of retention basins.

  • Could lead to State grant money being awarded via MVP program.
  • Proposed that Ken Wagner work with Sean Tryon and Dennis Lynch to work up a grant proposal in anticipation of future $$ availability.

5.Town Meeting Presentation -

  • Hope is to get qualified persons in the water in April to determine status of Milfoil and present update to  public at the Town Meeting in May.
  • Propose to use big maps showing progress made with milfoil for town meeting presentation.

Tentative April Meeting Date – April 1st or 9th? Can’t recall
