Monterey Cultural Council Meeting- 12/7/2022

Minutes

Attendees: Maggie Barkin, Janet Jensen, Barbara Dahlman (in person)  Erica Stern, Dorene Beller, Carole Clarin (virtually)

Minutes of November 16, 2022 meeting were read and accepted, with minor changes

  • A vote was taken and a decision was made to give the Monterey Community Center $150 for a December 20th blues concert to be held in the sanctuary of the UCC Church.  The concert will be free to the public.
  • Maggie discussed the fact that denial letters were sent out to applicants whose projects were not being funded by our Council this year.  No “reconsideration letters” have been received from any of those applicants.
  • A review of the remaining applicants was completed and the Council decided on three additional projects that it would not fund this year. Maggie will be sending out denial letters to
    • Berkshire Bach Society, Messiah Sings
    • Berkshire Music School, Ukulele Lessons for Students
    • Dewey Hall, Show N Tell
  • The balance of the meeting was spent reviewing the 17 grants that we are planning to fund, and determining the funding amount.  These projects include:
    1. Getting to Know three Poets
    2. Foraging in the Local Forests
    3. Circles: A multimedia Concert
    4. Moving Life Stories
    5. Berkshire Ukulele Band and Berkshire Sings
    6. Sparks at Flying Cloud Farm
    7. The Garage with Steve Butler
    8. Young at Heart
    9. Use Your Words
    10. Jazz Jam Sessions
    11. Festival Latino of the Berkshires
    12. Maker Spaces
    13. Three Easy Zines
    14. Monterey Lights the Holidays-2022
    15. New Marlborough Meeting House Programs and Gallery Show
    16. Knox Gallery Artist Discussions
    17. Taproots Sessions Dances and Workshops
    18. Early American Reenactment Weekend at Bidwell House
    19. Monterey Community Center: Three Concerts
    20. Monterey Summer Camp Historic Films
  • Maggie will be sending out a draft of the grant acceptance letters to the rest of the Council members for their input and edits.
  • An informal working session for getting out acceptance letters is tentatively scheduled for January 4th.  As of now, Maggie, Carol and Janet will be attending. The Monterey Library/Knox Gallery was proposed as the meeting site and Carol will be checking to see if it is available.
