Monterey Community Center Committee
Present: Laurie Shaw, Mary Makuc, RJ Supa, Kyle Pierce, Wendy Jensen,
Dennis Lynch, Roz Halberstadter, Elaine Lynch
Meeting commenced at 10:06 AM.
September 28, 2023 minutes approved.
Next meeting: November 9, 2023
Welcome to new Director RJ Supa. He provided all his contact information
for the group. After meeting with Melissa and Sophia for town business,
RJ will meet with various Committee members for orientation.
Discussion about need to change entry code through Jim Hunt. Laurie will
give RJ his contact information to accomplish the change.
Mary will attend meetings as a citizen so as not to increase the quorum
number.
Past Programs:
The Open House Party for Mary on October 8, 2023 was a huge success.
So many people came to thank Mary for all her wonderful work that has
made MCC such a vibrant part of Monterey. There were grateful speeches
by Laurie and Joe Baker, photo ops, and delicious treats.
Upcoming Programs:
-We would like a first aide program to show us how to use Lifepak AED.
Someone could contact Del Martin at the Fire Company, Beverly Dunn the
foot nurse. or Fairview Hospital in GB to inquire about providing a workshop
at MCC.
-Bruce Mandel wants to do a concert (folk music) sometime in May. He’s
asking for $500 and applied for a Monterey Cultural Council grant. He
could use the space and pay us $50 and put it on Eventbrite.
-Monterey Lights the Holidays (MLTH) is November 25. Spread the word;
ask neighbors to light up their homes. RJ and Wendy J. volunteered to
join the MLTH Committee. RJ will reach out to Mt. Everett School for possible
chorus participation. Dennis wrote article for Monterey News.
-Kyle will reach out to Marc Lapin about a program about old coins.
-Laurie will write article for MN for this month; going forward, RJ will write
monthly articles.
Upcoming Programs:
-November 4: Pie crust making with Hanna Jensen.
-RJ will contact Massachusetts Commission of Deaf or Hard of Hearing
(MCDHH) to look into our assisted technology.
-Halloween: Kyle in her teletubby outfit and RJ and French Fry in matching
outfits will be fun handing out candy. Monterey Coffee Club will donate
$25 again this year.
-Railroad Street Wellness Program October 26 at 3 PM.
Cultural Council Grants:
-Wendy J. and Elaine submitted a grant for $1900 for three summer concerts
(June, July and August). They will work on another grant for a Coffee
House to be held in the winter.
-We will ask JoAnn if she is writing a grant for mushroom walk again.
Ping Pong table is stored well. Wendy J. will shop for racks for chairs.
Discussion about items that seem to come and go from the building. RJ
suggested doing an inventory upstairs, labeling items in cubbies.
Donations:
-Mike Zerbel donated a sound bar for music; he will install it. We voted to
accept it. Laurie will thank him.
-Cousin of Edith Wilson wants to donate a portrait of Edith Wilson. RJ will
figure out when and where we could accept it.
Pavilion:
We need numbers to give to Selectboard by January. Mark Andrews is
helping us get those estimates for bathroom, lighting, parking, etc.. Mary
asked Jim Hunt for estimate on bathroom. Kyle will ask Mark Amsted. We
need a project manager. Mary will ask Rob about parking layout. Dennis
said that access to parking field is an issue. Laurie will talk to Frank; we
need to design a a site plan and present this to town in May.
Tent:
We’re ready for them take it down.It’s up to the tent company. Dennis will
ask Jim Hunt if plywood could be stored in MCC basement.
Master Plan:
Dennis will explore State grants to help with the Pavilion.
Donation Box:
Wendy J. will install it.
