MONTEREY BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING MINUTES

Date:  October 19, 2020

Present:  John Makuc and Roy Carwile

Also Present: Jim Wilusz, Mark Volk

Absent: Julio Rodriguez

The meeting began at 4pm

  1. 523 Main Rd:  Mark Volk has been communicating with Jim Wilusz on possible options to site a new garage that encroaches on the existing septic.  Mark Volk summarized the project.  The Zoning Board of Appeals is not allowing the variance that was requested.  Jim will make an inspection of the system.  John and Roy were both in support of the project.
  2. Trick or treat: Jim stated that the CDC put out guidance in mid-September and categorized Halloween and traditional trick-or-treat as a high risk activity.  The state will not be weighing in and is leaving it up to local boards of health.  Most surrounding towns are doing a no-contact trick or treat.  Jim’s public health opinion is that traditional trick or treat is a high risk activity and we are required to contact trace and it is difficult to do with this style of an event and he cannot support encouraging trick or treat.  Jim stated that we are working so hard to get the schools back open and it would be a shame to jeopardize that.  Roy and John discussed Jim’s recommendation.  Historically this has not been a large event in Monterey.  The Board did not have any strong opposition as long as the CDC guidelines were followed.
  3. The next meeting will be November 2, 2020.

The meeting adjourned at 4:45pm
