MONTEREY BOARD OF HEALTH MEETING MINUTES
Date: May 12, 2020
Present: John Makuc, Julio Rodriguez and Roy Carwile
Also Present: Jim Wilusz, John Szablowski,
The meeting began at 10am
The Board met to discuss the ongoing Coronavirus situation:
- The Board discussed whether or not they wanted to give the police temporary Board of Health authority to assist in enforcing the social distancing orders and closures of the public spaces. Most municipalities that Jim deals with are not utilizing this as they are not interested in issuing monetary fines. Roy argues that the police should be appointed to at a minimum address any complaints without issuing fines. Discussion also ensued about whether the Board itself should be enforcing any violations. Board of Health agents have the authority to act on any health violations. It was agreed that the Board would like to give the police department temporary, limited authority as health agents; this discussion will continue tomorrow during the select Board meeting. It was also suggested that the Board of Health should consider purchasing some surgical masks to provide to folks that may not have them.
- John Szablowski was in attendance to see if there was any new guidance on the 4 phase reopening approach and what camps will be allowed to do. John will email a copy of the camp’s plans for review.
- Jim Wilusz will continue to forward information as he receives it.
- Jim reviewed the details of the Governor’s order which requires you to wear a mask if you cannot maintain a 6 foot difference. The order does not require any government agency to provide masks.
The meeting adjourned at 11:02am
