Meeting date:
Monday, October 18, 2021

October 18, 2021

7:00 Town Hall

Steve Snyder, Tom Mensi, Gerry Claris, Tracey Brennan present

Any member of the Parks Commission may work on clearing and organizing our file cabinet in the Town Hall.

Tracey will write a report on our summer projects for the town website and for the Monterey News.

Next year we should clearly warn kayak and canoe owners that we cannot be responsible for theft from the racks. It is a police issue. All vessels must be removed from racks by the end of October.

We must follow up with Karen Slade regarding the tree warden’s assessment of the downed trees in Bidwell Park.

Gary O’Brien will turn over the infield of the ballpark in the spring. He will trim arborvitae at beach parking lot this fall.

Steve will pursue the possibility of Greenagers working to clear the Brewer Pond Trail.

The Monterey Native Plant Group would like to install a 4x8 raised bed near the rail fence at the beach. We approved this and are considering incorporating a bench and the beach monument’s plaque into the project next spring. We will take a survey of citizens in order to see if they would approve demolishing the badly deteriorated existing monument but keeping the plaque. Gerry will create the survey.

Do we need more “No dogs” signs at the beach?

We would like to have a nice sign identifying each of the town parks. Tom will pursue that. Tracey will work on reinstating Edith Wilson’s painted beach sign next spring.

Tom will write our report to be included in the annual report of the town.

All agreed that we will pay the fire dept for the use of the pavilion as an ice rink this winter.

We are the ones who must contract with Verizon for the beach phone if we wish to make changes.

Tom will begin investigating ways to fund an upgrade of the playground. Matching grants and fundraising options are possibilities.
