Minutes of the meeting of 9/12/20

Meeting Opened at: 10am

Select Board Members Present Remotely: Donald Coburn, Chair, Steven Weisz

Also present remotely: Barry Blank, Ron Oppenheimer, Steve Aronson, Frank Kern, Ian Lindsay, Michael Zisser, Rob Kaplan, Greg Carnese

Items discussed:

  1. Status of fiber in town: residents are directed to the Fiber Connect website where there is a link to a meeting recently held that address the status of fiber in town.
  2. Cell service: Steve provided an update on the Verizon LTE antenna on Chestnut hill is being tested for optimization and this will continue for the next 2 weeks.  Steve said it is his understanding (but this still needs to be confirmed with the building inspector) that Verizon has applied for a permit for the Main Rd tower.
  3. Chapin Fish was present to provide an update on the Monterey General Store.  Construction has become a much larger project than anticipated.  The owners are also making the building handicap accessible and using the building to its fullest capacity, taking advantage of its location on the river.  Hopes are to open late next spring or early summer.
  4. Lake Garfield: A quick update about the lake and milfoil was given.  Don also noted that he would like to see the Friends of Lake Garfield reignite the conversation of creating a separate tax district.  The Select Board will discuss their support of this at a future meeting.
  5. Kayak storage: The Board reported that the Parks Commission has ordered more racks for next year and they are working on the permitting system for next season which encountered a few hiccups this year.
  6. Major road work: The biggest project we are currently working on is the culvert replacement in the center of town.  Don reported that there are a few roads that have a black looking material on them and have called inquiring about it; the material is something new we are trying to help mitigate when we get heavy rains, it is not permanent.
  7. There will be a special town meeting on October 24th; the items that will be on the warrant were reviewed.
  8. Someone inquired if there were any plans to paint lines on the basketball court.  This falls under the Parks Commission’s authority and the resident was directed to reach out to them.

A motion was made and unanimously approved to adjourn the meeting at: 10:54am
