Frequently Asked Questions: Obtaining a Transfer Station Sticker

  1. How many stickers am I allowed?
    1. Your yearly fee of allows you up to two (2) stickers with valid license plate numbers.
  2. Is the yearly sticker fee prorated?
    1. No.
  3. What if I only need one (1) sticker, can I pay half of the yearly sticker fee?
    1. No.  The yearly sticker fee allows you up to two (2) stickers.
  4. What if I need more than two (2) stickers?
    1. Additional Stickers beyond the first 2 are $15 each and a license plate number is required.
  5. What happens if I lose or misplace my stickers?
    1. If you need to replace a sticker(s), the fee is $15 per new sticker.  Remember if you are transferring plates you can peel off the sticker and transfer it to your new car.  If you are trading in a car please bring in your plate return receipt and you will be issued a replacement at no charge.
  6. What do I do if I rent my house out?
    1. You must first purchase the two (2) stickers you are entitled to with valid license plates for the yearly fee.  Then you may purchase (or have your renters purchase) a temporary sticker (which is good for a 30 day period without a license plate number) for $20.  If you need more than a 30 day period you will need to purchase more than one temporary sticker (at $20/each) and specify on your application in the appropriate spot the months that you need temporary stickers for.
  7. Do you need to know the year, make or model of my car(s)?
    1. No.  Only the license plate number(s).
  8. What if I feel these policies are unfair?
    1. You are more than welcome to put in writing your comments and or suggestions to the Select Board to review when making next year’s policies.
  9. When and where can I purchase my stickers?
    1. You can purchase them online or at the Town Hall at the Town Administrator’s Office.  If you are planning to purchase your stickers in person it is always recommended to check our meeting calendar online at www.montereyma.gov or call 413-528-1443 x111 to make sure the office isn’t closed due to illness or vacation.  Stickers are not sold at the Transfer Station.
  10. Do you accept credit cards?
    1. Credit cards are accepted when you purchase your stickers online at www.montereyma.gov .
  11. What is the easiest way to purchase my stickers?
    1. Online at www.montereyma.gov .
  12. I received my new stickers; can I put them on the car even though it’s not yet July 1?
    1. YES!  We prefer you do this so you do not lose them.  Stickers go on the outside of the car on the passenger side rear window.
  13. Is there a fee for bulky waste?
    1. Yes.  Beginning July 1, 2022 the following will be the new pricing for Bulky Waste Disposal:
      1. Fluorescent/Mercury Items: No Charge
      2. Electronics: $20 each
      3. Cell Phones: No Charge
      4. Mattresses/Box Springs: $20 each
      5. Stuffed Furniture: $25 each
      6. Appliances/Small Equipment: $15 each
      7. Items Containing Refrigerant: $25 each
      8. Demo Debris (45 gallon can): $10, 6 foot truck: $50 and 8 foot truck $75
      9. Car batteries: No Charge
      10. Passenger Vehicle Tires: $10 each As of May 2023 tires are no longer accepted at the transfer station
